What to expect, 2nd Trimester

Hey Guys!

The 2nd trimester is easier and more enjoyable for most, that is. Remember, every pregnancy is different.

I didn’t stop feeling the nausea (and all the other feelings, view this post to read about it) until month 4, so that’s a little into the 2nd trimester.  But in general, the morning sickness, the mood swings, the extreme fatigue, begin to subside.  Maybe not so much the mood swings, really depends on every woman and how the hormones affect you.  My boyfriend was very lucky, I didn’t expirience hardly any.

What you can expect is to hear your baby’s heartbeat! It’s around week 12 and it is incredible!  I thought it was amazing.  In my mind it was like “wow, she is really there”.  In this trimester you will also get to see better images of your baby, I used to enjoy going so much.  I couldn’t wait to see her.

Also, movement!  Between week 16 and 20.  I didn’t recognize it at first, I thought it was just cramping.  My daughter enjoyed moving alot at night, after a long day at work I would lie down in bed, and then she would have a party inside my belly.

Your belly will start to get alot bigger! In my case, it didn’t.  I´m quite petite.  I did think I was going to be huge but my bump only started to really show at 6 1/2 months.  Due to getting bigger you can experience abdominal aches which will be from your uterus expanding.  They are a bit uncomfortable and sadly they kinda don’t go away until birth, at least for me it was like that.  The worst part of a growing belly can be stretch marks.  To try and avoid them make sure you use creams and oils.  I used the Bio Oil and this Mustela one.  Better to prevent than to cure!

Expect more weight gain.  Remember that just because you´re pregnant it’s not an excuse to over eat, try to choose healthy options.  I know it’s hard, especially if you have cravings.  Everything we eat while pregnant goes to the baby.  I gained a total of 8 kilos ( 17,6 lbs) which is not much, but the average is between 8 and 15 kilos ( 17 to 33 lbs).  Salads, fruit, vegetables, lean meat and legumes…  Do your best to avoid fast food chains, they don’t contain anything beneficial for your baby.

You will also be going for a wee wee more often.  What bothered me the most was having to get up 2 or 3 times at night, but what ya gonna do right?

Oh, and one of the best things about this trimestre, is how much people start to notice your incredible hair.  How much fuller and shinier it is.  This is due to the increase of hormones called androgens.  Enjoy it, because it dosn’t last unfortunately.

So girls, that’s mostly what you can expect.  This is the easiest trimester so relax and enjoy it.

bye! xx
